If you don’t have a 4-year-old daughter, you may not have seen the movie Frozen yet. That’s ok. Disney always has great inspiring soundtracks for their movies, so I thought I’d include a song from this blockbuster as inspiration for this article on releasing. Please click on the link above to listen to the song, then continue reading : )

A lot can happen in a year, some good, some not so good. Keep all the happy memories, file the not so great ones away as lessons, and then let them go. Holding onto painful memories doesn’t do you any good – it just keeps you stuck. You’ll also want to release any behaviour and thought patterns that really don’t serve you any more. Otherwise, you’re bringing a lot o baggage with you on your journey into the new year.

A great way to travel lightly into the new year is to write down on a piece of paper all the things you are ready to let go of. Sit with it for a while, this isn’t meant to be a rush job. Be honest with yourself and look at what you created in 2015, as well as why/how.

Once you have a list that feels complete – you haven’t overlooked any major things – then burn baby burn. You are literally going to light this list on fire and watch it burn. Do so in a safe way, preferably outdoors. As you watch the flames engulf your list of things to let go, feel these things leaving your space and energy. Allow them to dissolve into nothingness.

After this is complete, take out another sheet of paper. This is a happy sheet. You are going to write down all your visions for 2016 on this paper. You don’t have to know how they will happen – dream big! Consider all areas of your life and make sure you set intentions for all of them. You are setting the foundation for an exceptional year. Fold up this piece of paper and put it somewhere you won’t lose it – like in a bedside table drawer.

Now every month, or more frequently if you feel so inclined, take out this piece of paper and review it. Stay connected to your dreams and intentions and see them come to life!

How to Shift into Your Body & Soul

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Uncategorized

As a woman, I live through my body, I experience things through my body, and quite honestly – I talk through my body. I will say things like “My body doesn’t want to eat that” or “My body needs more rest.”

It’s not all about the brain!

This can be a foreign language to some people, i.e., most men. And probably some ladies too. But ever since getting a copy of Women’s Bodies Women’s Wisdom many years ago, I started to speak Body-ese.

Now I’m reading a book called Feminine and Powerful, and loving it. There’s something called the dienten (by various Eastern traditions) that sits in the womb area. It sits there and is wise. And this wisdom can be tapped into.

I love it! And I believe my soul’s wisdom resides in my body, so when I listen to my body, I’m connecting to my divine knowing.

I had to clear a number of blocks before I could even stay in my body (as opposed to living 100% in my mind).

Do you listen to your body? How much time do you spend in your body vs your mind?

These are valuable questions to ask. If you find you spend a lot of time with thoughts, try some simple practices:

Observe your breath (yes it’s that easy, but at the same time not as easy as you’d think!)

Feel sensations in your palms and feet (these are the easiest areas to feel sensations in)

Place your hand on your lower stomach and breath into it (this is very calming, de-stressing, and grounding)

Try these out and let me know what you think!

Dare to be Aware

I’ve started to notice something very interesting. A new awareness has sprouted as the spring sun begins to shine and I’m seeing things in a slightly delightfully different way. Allow me to share.

Exhibit A: The past. Hello past. Before I make many decisions, I stop and check in with the past. Do you do that too?

Whether it’s, “Hmm, how should I treat this person. Stop. Past check: How did this person treat me before? Oh! Not great. Ok, I will then also not treat them that great.”

Or maybe, “How should I act in this situation? Stop. Past check: Well, I acted this way before and it seemed to go ok/kept me “safe”. Ok! I’ll stick with that.”

Do you notice what’s happening? As soon as the past check happens it’s like travelling from the present back in time. I’m no longer connected to how I’m feeling in the moment. I’m literally living in and perpetuating the past.

Do I want to keep doing this? Um, no.

Exhibit B: The present. Hello present! How refreshing you are and full of possibility!

What I’m noticing now is that when my mind habitually starts checking in with the past, something new happens.

There’s a little voice that reminds me: “You have a choice. Do you really want to base how you are going to act in the past? Or do you want to come from the present space of love and act differently?”

So at least two times now I’ve chosen love. And it’s fantastic! I would like to keep doing it.

Then slowly the past will fade and my amazing present will grow and grow and grow. And grow.

How to Get Unstuck

What do you do when you’re not sure what to do? You’re not sure if you’re getting guidance, you’re not sure which of your 5 ideas to pursue, you’re not sure how to move forward.

Answer: Do anything.

But what if it’s the wrong thing? I need to do the rightest thing! Is what your resistance mechanisms may say. Oh resistance, that’s very kind of you to point out, but also very paralyzing.

Taking any action will snap you out of stuckness. It’s more about doing something than what you do. There are worksheets out there to help you decide what to do first. And if you don’t feel like finding one, then simply pick at random one item on your to do list and do it.

Then celebrate that you did something! Do this 15 minutes a day and watch as your life starts moving in the ‘right’ direction. I say ‘right’ because when we’re in it, sometimes we can’t see the rightness. But look back in 5 years and it will all make perfect sense
